Driving directions....

Driving north on Hwy 53 (as from Duluth), turn right (east) onto Hwy 169 about four miles north of Virginia
Follow 169 eastward (about 50 miles) into Ely where you will enter town on Sheridan Street.
At the first stop light, turn right (south) on Central Avenue and drive one block to Chapman Street.
Turn right (west - toward the water tank) and drive about half a block to
31 West Chapman Street (right side of street).

The shop looks like a small house because that's just what it was before it became my grandfather's shoe repair shop, and later my shop.

Driving north on Hwy 21 (through Babbit or Embarrass)
You will enter Ely from the south, passing the golf course on the left.
You will be driving north on Central Avenue.
About eight blocks past the radio station -- and one block before the stop light on Sheridan Street -- turn left (west - toward the water tank) on Chapman Street and drive about half a block to
31 West Chapman Street (right side of street).

Driving north on Hwy 1 (from the North Shore of Lake Superior or Two Harbors) you will enter Ely from the south.
Just past the Chamber of Commerce building, it's a good idea to stop at the intersection with Sheridan Street/Hwy 169.
Turn left (west) on Sheridan Street and drive 17 blocks (about 1.2 miles) to the third stop light (at the bottom of the hill).
Turn left (south) onto Central Avenue at the light and drive one block to Chapman Street where you should turn right (west - toward the water tank) and drive about half a block to the shop at
31 West Chapman Street (right side of street).
